Religious Education

Picture of a stained glass windowSilchester is a Church of England foundation School and Christian attitudes are reflected in the everyday life of the school. In Religious Studies children are helped to acquire a knowledge of the Bible and of the life of Jesus, and an understanding of the Christian Faith as a way of life.

In addition, through the study of Hinduism, Judaism and Islam, children develop an understanding and respect for the beliefs, traditions and cultures of three world religions.

Each day children participate in active worship that supports the Christian foundation of the school. At certain festivals and other times of the year, the choir, musicians, groups of children, whole classes, or the whole school actively participate in services at St. Mary’s Church. In school, at the end of each term, a Family Service is held to which parents, guardians, grandparents and friends are invited. A Communion Service is held at school once a term.

Parents may choose to withdraw their children from part, or all, of religious education and collective worship by contacting the school. Children withdrawn will be given appropriate work and supervised by a member of staff.
