The majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run. In the past four academic years we have raised over £20,000 and last year (to March 2008) the total was in excess of £7,500.
Three of our biggest events in recent years have been the Children’s Christmas Market, the May Fete, and the Summer Ball, the Ball being held in conjunction with Mortimer School for the past two years. Other events which have generated healthy funds and a great deal of fun have included a fair-trade fashion show, a ladies’ night of pampering and the ever-popular talent show.
Specifically for the pupils, we organise a key stage 2 disco in the Autumn term and a key stage 1 event at Easter time which are much enjoyed. In addition we hold a barbecue and arrange photographs for year 6 leavers.
Over the past few years we have held several sponsored events, including a Roman walk, sponsored read and an sponsored exercise routine. These events have proved to be great fundraising opportunities and encourage the involvement of pupils so we will aim to organise an annual sponsored challenge.
School uniform sales help our funds and we encourage all parents to buy uniforms through the association. Forms are available at the school office.
We operate a Half Cut club which runs much like a lottery with half the money going to the PTA and half being prizes. We hope that you will support this as it really is an ideal way of making a regular contribution to the school, with the possibility of winning it all back!
We try to respond to the children’s requests for events and will be meeting with school council members to try to encourage them to think of new ideas. Needless to say, any suggestions you may have are always welcome.
As the PTA is a Registered Charity, we are also able to raise money through Gift Aid and Charity Matched Giving schemes.
Gift Aid
Gift Aid is tax claimed back from the Inland Revenue from donations made to us out of your earned income.
If you are a UK tax payer, we are able to claim 28.2p in every pound that you donate to our association. This means that for every £100 donated to the PTA with Gift Aid, we will raise £128.21!
We will ensure that a Gift Aid declaration is included wherever appropriate in association fundraising initiatives. All you need to do is sign the Gift Aid Declaration confirming your employment and that you want your donation to be treated as a Gift Aid donation.
There is nothing further for you to do and we need no other information from you. We do not, and are not required to, divulge any personal information to the Inland Revenue.
Charity Matched Giving
This is a scheme where your employer pledges to donate to a charity (the PTA) an amount of money relating to the amount that you donate or fundraise for us. The company can have charitable donations written off against taxable profits.
If you think that your employer has a matched giving scheme already in operation, or if you would like some more information about charity matched giving or setting up a scheme in your workplace, please talk to one of the Committee Members.
