Decisions on how to spend the money are made at Committee meetings.
Sue Elliott, our headteacher, may have a “shopping list” of items that the school would like to purchase, often as a result of the children asking for something.
The main focus of recent years has been school grounds improvements. The association has been involved with the School Grounds Development Group and helped co-ordinate a working party.
In the last few years we have contributed £5,000 towards the cost of laying a specialised surface and markings in the playground and £8,000 for the installation of the adventure playground, designed by year 2 children after consultation with their fellow pupils. This has been a particular achievement which should be a great source of pride to every member of our association. The childrens' obvious pleasure with this equipment is addictive.
PTA funds are intended for the ‘extras’ not provided by the school budget that make our children’s learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting. The funds are not generally spent on improving the fabric of the school as this is the responsibility of the Governing Body.
We endeavour to spend our funds in ways that will benefit all our children across all areas of the school and curriculum. We try to spend the money we raise fairly quickly. That way, you can be sure that in supporting the association, your child/ren will benefit, along with everybody else.
Also this year we have bought a digital camera for each year, a badge maker, new books for the library and have paid for music lessons for three classes for a year (hopefully this is something we can continue to support so that all children will benefit as they move through the school).
Even when we are fundraising for large projects, such as the playground expenditure, we still manage to find funds for smaller items thanks to the generous and continued support of our parents and friends. In recent years, the PTA has contributed to the school:
- equipment and books
- the annual year 6 leavers photograph and barbecue
- coach hire for full school trip to The Borrowers
- coach hire for year 6 trip to Winchester Cathedral
- library computerisation
- toys for reception class
