OVERVIEW

The PTA is an organisation made up of parents/guardians/carers, teachers and staff, encouraging closer links between home and school. Every carer, teacher or member of staff at the school is automatically a member of the PTA. It has been shown that children achieve higher levels of attainment when their parents are engaged. The PTA is a great way to help with this and regularly get involved in organising social events. Fundraising however, is what the PTA is most readily associated with.

Silchester PTA is a registered charity. It is responsible for managing its own funds which are separate from the schools.

Our PTA has been in operation for many years and successfully raises several thousand pounds each year for the school to use to enhance the experiences of the children. Its ongoing aim is to build on the good work the PTA has been achieving over the years and work in conjunction with the strategic aims of the school.

Whilst fund raising is our primary goal, links between school and parents is important and engagement of all members of the school community is key. Parents, teachers, staff and governors are all involved in the education and wellbeing of the children at Silchester Primary School and it would be good to get as many involved in the PTA as possible.

PTA REGULAR FUNDRAISING EVENTS

  • After school children only events such as discos and film nights
  • Christmas cards and other children’s arts and crafts
  • Non-uniform days
  • Sponsorship events
  • Parent and community events
  • Volunteering events such as grounds days

The PTA continues to diversify its range of fundraising events and it is hoped that new members will add to the number of events we can accommodate.

SPENDING

The majority of the PTA’s funds go on the more exceptional and “extra” items that the school requires, which would normally fall outside their budget and/or be seen as an enhancement to the children’s time at Silchester.

Over the past few years we have enhanced the playground with the addition of a new climbing frame, contributed towards a new adventure trail and provided new sports equipment, such as goals and netball posts.

Last year we also donated £5,000 towards new laptops and through one of the parents provided a further 30 refurbished laptops.

A further commitment has already been made to provide £1,500 towards music and support to our new Forest School status, which is ongoing

We also provide funding on a more reoccurring basis (either annually or quarterly):

THE FUTURE

The PTA could not survive if it wasn’t for wonderful people who make up our school community. While we aim to raise as much money as possible from our events the thought at the forefront of our minds is always “making it fun for the children”. Whether that be meeting Santa, watching a film after school or getting thoroughly soaked and cover in paint running the Rainbow Run, we want the children to make fantastic memories while they are here.

We are always looking for new volunteers and for new members of our committee who will drive this vision forward. If you think you can spare even a small amount of time please come to one of our meetings – everyone is welcome.
